This Thursday is going to be a busy one. We all must go and see Chris Barr's curatorial bash at Plan 9, then we all must give Lucy B the sending off she deserves down at Spike Island. Clicky clicky for links.
p.s. that pic above is Lady Lucy's portrait of Lucy B.
Our next show is called Plain. It was curated by Jamie Walling and it is the second of our two intern shows. This one opens on Friday night at 7pm and you are all invited. After that, of course, it is open from 12-6pm on Saturday 11th of October - Sunday 12th of October and then Thursday 16th October - Sunday 19th October
For pictures from ESKIMO BOYS STILL EAT WHALE BLUBBER, the show curated by our intern Jamie Bracken Lobb, click on the picture below. It was pretty good.
Based in Bristol, our collaboration is called Rhys & Hannah Present. We have both graduated from Art and Visual Culture at the Fine Art School in Bristol, and, after we both exhibited in New Contemporaries 2007, we took inspiration to work together and form the collaboration. Our aim was to initiate a platform for young and emerging Bristol based artists to exhibit in Bristol, and for the work of both emerging and more established artists elsewhere to made visible in Bristol.
Using temporary sites the collaboration organised …a Birthday Art Show and what we’d buy if you buy (our t-shirts). The success of these lead to the negotiation of a short-term lease on a old shop right in the heart of Bristol’s commercial centre where we organised The Big Art Draw, Clouds and hosted an exchange with the Manchester based exhibition exchange o p e n e n d e d. We have also hosted Undisputed King of Nothing, the solo show from Bristol based artist Kieran Brown and organised Clap Your Hands Say. ESKIMO BOYS STILL EAT WHALE BLUBBER was the first show curated by one of our interns, Jamie Bracken Lobb. Plain, curated by Jamie Walling was our second and all over (bar the shouting) saw our studio holders Emma Ridley and Ellen Wilinson with their two-(wo)man show.
Next we had our two selected Window installations. We had a lot of submissions, with Oliver Sutherland and Robert Chavasse coming up trumps.
After Window, we hosted 3 other artist-run spaces from across England for one big last show, with a small print run of 100 publications that included contributions from 7 artist-run spaces.
The lease on our space ran out in December and we are currently working on a website that gives a simple and comprehensive list of the work Rhys & Hannah Present did from it's conception in January 2008 until the end of the lease at 15 The Arcade in December 2008.
Thanks,
Rhys Coren and Hannah James
